What Is A Full Stack Entrepreneur?

A full stack entrepreneur is someone who holds a full stack or a complete set of skills that would be beneficial for entrepreneurship and starting a business.

Someone who says they’re a full stack entrepreneur might wield a savvy kit of skills like these…

  • Basic Photoshop skills
  • Digital Marketing basics
  • Social Media knowledge
  • SEO basics
  • Intermediate HTML & CSS
  • Basic bootstrap framework and JS skills
  • Specific CMS knowledge such as WordPress
  • Networking and communication skills

BUT – just because a person is capable of doing all things, it doesn’t mean they should!

It can be helpful to be an entrepreneur able to do all of the roles he is filling in a team while building it because it might assist in building a more solid team. However, a truly successful entrepreneur is someone who knows how to lead and build an effective team, delicate work while articulating a vision, and hone in on what they themselves do best – and sticks to that.

If you can create a full stack team or startup rather than try to be all things to your business yourself, you can create a great company. Many great startups began with a team who had not only a product to sell but also a team with aptitudes for software, hardware, design, consumer marketing, supply chain management, sales, partnerships, and regulation for example.

Full stack startups look like these…

  • Tesla
  • Warby Parker
  • Uber
  • Nest
  • Buzzfeed
  • Netflix

This approach of having a full stack startup makes it increasingly difficult for competitors to duplicate your efforts given all of the components already working together as a system. Entrepreneurs often execute many roles before they’re able to carve out great teams in part because hiring experts can be pricey, but there are many ways an entrepreneur can strategically grow the breadth and depth of their skill tree or stack.
